One day while throwing bowls on the pottery wheel, Natalie was planning a particular jewelry design which required an opaque bead. Suddenly she realized that the bead she was thinking of could be made out of the very clay she was working with. Needless to say there was no visit to the bead store that day. Instead a love of small sculptural objects took shape and has steadily grown.
From round beads, to textured beads, to elaborately glazed beads, every day brings something new to the creative environment. Sometimes ideas explode and other times they develop over time. What she enjoys most is being able to start out with a chunky piece of clay and sculpt it into any shape that seems desirable at the time. The creative process tends to bring the chaos of everyday live into a functional order.
Natalie Pappas lives in Fort Worth, Texas. She handcrafts her beads out of porcelain, stoneware, earthenware beads.
